About Hammertown
For two wild weeks every year, the dry lakebed of Johnson Valley transforms into something unreal — a full-blown, off-grid city in the middle of the California desert.
We call it Hammertown, and it’s the beating heart of King of the Hammers. Built from trailers, tents, tools, and raw grit, Hammertown is where racers wrench, fans roam, brands launch, and the entire off-road world comes together to celebrate the hardest one-day race on the planet.
