TG Rock Racing’s Guyer and Haran Qualify for 2013 King of the Hammers Race
Easton PA – TG Rock Racing’s (TGRR) announces the qualification of driver Dan Guyer and co-driver Mike Haran for the 2012 King of the Hammers race. Guyer and Haran battled 30 other race cars and a muddy race course at the Ultra4 Right Coast Qualifier (RCQ) at Rausch Creek Offroad Park on Saturday, June 2, to earn a coveted spot in the 2013 race. The King of the Hammers race will be held in February in Johnson Valley, California. The race is known as the most grueling single-day offroad race in the world.
“We had a good day, even with the chaotic course,” said driver, Dan Guyer. “The race course actually suited us pretty well because we’re used to running in the East Coast conditions. We had a problem with our transfer case shifter during the second lap, so we were forced to run the final two laps in low range. The mud eventually got the best of our radiator, and we had to back off our pace to keep the engine alive. It’s a big accomplishment for us because we’re running a nearly complete Jeep tub and competing against purpose-built tube buggies. I’m thrilled to have the chance to race in Johnson Valley; it’s huge opportunity for us. Our pit crew did an incredible job for us, especially Todd Divelbliss at F&S Racing in helping us prep the car.”
This is the third race of the 2012 season for TGRR. The team placed 6th in the first Rausch Creek ORP event and first overall in the Line Mountain 4Wheelers Rausch Creek event. TGRR will be back in action in July at the Line Mountain 4Wheelers Coal Bucket race.
The King of the Hammers race has grown to a week-long event with 30,000 spectators, vendor displays, and multiple races leading up to the showcase competition. The race pits 100 racers from around the world against the famous Johnson Valley “Hammers” trails and over 100 miles of desert racing.
