Team GenRight finishes the 2011 King of the Hammers in Second Place!
Tony Pellegrino in the 4485 GenRight Off-Road Buggy finishes the 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers in the second position!
Starting from the 41st position at the 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers Tony Pellegrino and co-driver Bryan Lyttle had their work cut out for them to get to the front of the pack. The strategy was simple for race day, keep the car together and run our own race. After the green flag dropped, the guys were able to make quick work of moving to the front of the pack!
When they reached Outer limits on the first lap they got caught in traffic when a rig rolled over right in front of them. This incident cost the team approximately 30 minutes as the rolled rig blocked the line. By the end of the first 60 mile lap the team had already moved into the 7th place and would continue to battle their way to the front.
Keeping the car together is exactly what they did! The team only had to stop for scheduled fuel stops and were able to run in the front of the pack for a majority of the day. When the checkered flag dropped at the end of the second lap the team had crossed the finish line in second place over 7 minutes ahead of third place.
“The car ran flawless all day long, our 42″ Goodyear tires and Walker Evans Wheels made the perfect combination to keep the traction on the rocks and through the desert and resulted in no flats” stated Tony. The GenRight Legend suspension system paired with the King coil over shocks made even the deepest of whoops or largest of boulders easy work for the GenRight team as well.
The GenRight buggy features a built LS3 motor boasting 595 horsepower and 585 foot pounds of torque that is paired with a Hughes Performance turbo 350 transmission that gets the power to the ground through an Atlas Transfer case and a set of Currie axles with Motive gears. This was the perfect combination for power as we were able to power through the rocks and stay ahead of the competition.
This second place finish would not have been possible without the support and dedication of our entire team. The GenRight team members are what gave us the advantage to stay ahead of the competition on race day.
