Spidertrax Dominates 2016 King of the Hammers
A successful Ultra4 race program requires many different facets. A talented driver, a skilled navigator, an experienced support team, and Spidertrax Spider9 axles. That’s right, Spider9 axles have proven to be a key component to success at King of the Hammers and Ultra4 races around the world. For the second year in a row, Spider9 axles swept the podium at King of the Hammers when Erik Miller took the checkered flag in his solid axle Jeep buggy, followed by Jason Scherer and Raul Gomez in their single seat, IFS race cars. None of them had a trouble free race; Miller had a driveshaft failure and had to winch on several occasions, and Scherer battled cooling issues early in the day. In an event that is notorious for finding the weak links in any race program, none of the podium finishers had to worry about axle-related woes on race day.
Of course Spider9 axles aren’t exclusive to top tier race teams. Many of the same great features can be found in our Ultimate line of housings, unit bearings, axle shafts, and brakes, making them available to every man. In fact, Brad Lovell won the 2016 Every Man Challenge at King of the Hammers with Spidertrax axles under the same Ford Ranger buggy he has been racing at KOH for the past nine years. Brothers Brad and Roger Lovell started in the 70th position off the line and passed every vehicle in front of them during the 116 miles of racing to be the first physical finishers. Second to the Lovells was Randy Slawson in his V6 Bomber buggy equipped with… you guessed it, Spidertrax axles.
What is it about Spider9 axles that consistently put them at the top of the podium? Spidertrax has stacked the deck with a skilled team whose passion for racing keeps them up at night engineering components that are stronger, lighter, and more reliable than the competition. The results can be seen in our Pro Series housings, with heat treated axle tubes and a 4130 center that accepts huge 10-inch gear sets while maximizing ground clearance. Or Spidertrax’s 300M Pro Series axle shafts that use a unique webbed yoke to allow 50 degrees of steering with no loss of strength. These features have helped put Spidertrax-equipped drivers on the top step of the podium at 22 of the past 24 Ultra4 events.
