Full-Bodied FJ Cruiser To Compete in 2012 King of the Hammers
Rock royalty Jon Bundrant returns to hardcore competition
Former SuperCrawl champion Jon Bundrant is coming out of retirement for King of the Hammers 2012. Bundrantwill compete in Team All-Pro Off-Road’s new full-bodied Ultra FJ. This unique Pro Class entry will race against the purpose-built King of the Hammers Ultra4 truggies.
The Ultra FJ is owned by Jeff Miller of Mad Dog Offroad (Lake Elsinore, CA). It was originally a 2008 FJ Cruiser that Bundrant’s All-Pro Off-Road built as a serious trail machine. The FJ made many trips over the Hammer trails recreationally. Then Miller decided to see how a Toyota-based 4×4 would stack up in Ultra4 competition against dual-sport buggies that can both rock-crawl and high-speed desert race. Unlike Bundrant’s previous ride, Nelson & Nelson’s infamous “Tiny” buggy, the Ultra FJ was built using hardcore Toyota products that All-Pro Off-Road actually sells to enthusiasts.
Bundrant and the Ultra FJ will be in the Last Chance Qualifier field for King of the Hammers 2012 on February 7, 2012. If all goes as planned, they’ll make the KOH main event, held February 10. Then off-road enthusiasts will get to see how a 4×4 with Toyota DNA stacks up against custom Ultra4 machines.
The Ultra FJ is sponsored by All-Pro Off-Road, AEM, BFGoodrich Tires, Currie Enterprises, Fox Shox, Mad Dog Offroad, Mastercraft Safety, Mike’s Transmissions, Performance Toyota, TRDParts4U.com, and Walker Evans wheels.
