Big Ugly Racing Joins Team GenRight for 2011
Kevin Sacalas and his team, Big Ugly Racing, are pleased to announce they will be racing as “Team GenRight” for the 2011 Ultra4 season with additional support provided by The Orleans Casino. Sacalas made a name for himself in 2009 by becoming the first ever Ultra4 Winner in Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno: The Long Way. In 2010, he continued his success in Ultra4 racing with a 3rd place finish in the King of the Hammers Grand Slam of Offroad Racing series. Sacalas is known as much for his competitive racing as he is for the race vehicle that fans have affectionately named, “Big Ugly.”
Sacalas is planning on competing in the Ultra4 Series in 2011 which will include King of the Hammers, another Best in the Desert race at the Silver State 300, a trip to Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, Glen Helen’s short course track and the 2nd annual Ultra4 Stampede in Reno. In preparation for the 2011 season, Sacalas has stripped down “Big Ugly” and is in the process of fabricating his 2nd generation Ultra4 car which fans are already referring to as “Big Ugly 2.0.” Sacalas and his co-driver, Kory Merrill, are looking forward to their most competitive season yet with both a new car and exciting new sponsorships with GenRight OffRoad and The Orleans Casino.
“Partnering with GenRight for the 2011 Ultra4 race season just makes sense,” said Sacalas. “Like Tony Pellegrino and his GenRight crew, every member of the Big Ugly Racing team are Jeep owners. Both of our teams are passionate about offroading whether it’s for racing or fun, and combining the energy of our teams for 2011 is going to make for an exciting and competitive race season. I’m looking forward to it!”
In addition to GenRight’s sponsorship, Sacalas and his team are also excited to have secured sponsorship from The Orleans Casino which has a long history with both racing and Sacalas’ family. Michael Gaughan, a racer himself, once ran the casino and sponsored drivers including offroad racing legend, Walker Evans. Sacalas’ family has taken annual vacations to the casino for as long as Sacalas can remember. In fact, The Orleans was Big Ugly Racing headquarters during their first win in BiTD’s Vegas to Reno: The Long Way
According to Sacalas, “My Team and I are really excited to be racing as part of Team GenRight this season and to have the support of two great organizations: GenRight Offroad and The Orleans Casino. 2011 is going to be our best season yet!”
