Welcome to the 2025 King of the Motos, the first stop on the U.S. Hard Enduro Tour! When you race with us, you're racing on a world-class course meant to test you mentally and physically, as well as challenge your mechanical fortitude through the entire race.

For 2025, all riders will be racing the US Hard Enduro Series classes. This class expansion gives riders of different abilities the opportunity to compete with their peers! Classes are:

AMA will be on-site to verify membership. Be sure to follow the links and register your race number on the USHE MotoTally site, which is a requirement to race. An AMA membership is also required to race.

FORMAT
Race 1 on Saturday will be 2 consecutive laps using time correction. Lap 1 will be apx. 11 miles and Lap 2 will be 11.2 miles with the start in waves of classes every 2 minutes. Qualifying will set your start position for Sunday’s race. All racers must make one checkpoint on Sunday.

Sunday will be 4 laps with the start in waves of 10-20 riders. Lap 1 will be 8 miles, Lap 2 will be 10 miles, and Lap 3 will be 12 miles, and Lap 4 will be 12 miles on the same course as Lap 3 with an added finish line feature. There will be a gas/pit stop at the start/finish line. Riders will be responsible to set up the stop Sunday morning before the race. All USHE rules apply.All mileages are close but approximate.

GPS
The King of the Motos course is GPS based. This course takes out the guesswork when using the GPS. High exposure or possibly confusing sections will be marked accordingly. The racer MUST know how to use their GPS!!! It is another racing skill to master to be successful at KoM. GPS is necessary here in Johnson Valley due to the expanse of area being utilized! Find the full details in the GPS Appendix below.

Trackers
For 2025 the King of the Motos competitors will be required to rent and carry a Yellowbrick Tracker. They will fit in most packs, and are essential to the safety of the competitor. These trackers allow the Race Ops team to have eyes on the competitor at all times and are required for all King of the Hammers races. There is an emergency button on the tracker that can be utilized in the event of a medical or mechanical issue. Cost will be $60 in registration.

Event Registration/Classes

Competitors Start Here! – King of the Hammers

All racers will have the same course to compete on with the same opportunities to win the overall. See Race Format.

Race 1 Staging Main Stage Hammertown 8:30, Move to start line 9AM , Start 10AM
The rider’s meeting/staging will kick off King of the Motos 2024 at the starting line(location TBD at Friday rider meeting). Start line location to be near Hammertown and the finish line will be in Hammertown. Staging will be based on class and finishing order from last year. The race will start one row at a time every 2 minutes on a GPS based course with some markings. No outside assistance during the race! Only racers helping racers.

Checkpoints will hard close at 2PM

Sunday Race 2 Staging 8AM Start 9AM at Chocolate Thunder Start/Finish Line
Race 2 will start at 9AM and will be staged in order of Race 1 finish positions. The start will be rows of 10-20 starting in waves. Lap 1 is Approx 8 miles and will include a gas/pit stop at the Start/Finish line. Lap 2 will be Approx 10 miles. Lap 3 will be 12 miles. Lap 4 will be 12 miles on the same course as Lap 3 with an added finish line feature. Laps are GPS based with some course markings.  No outside assistance during the race! Only racers helping racers.

Checkpoints will hard close at 3PM

Awards in Hammertown, 5PM

What to do after?
Many races you attend are over, but not King of the Motos! Saturday to include a Holeshot Kings event presented by Jeremy McGrath and on Sunday A King of the Grand Prix event presented by Jeremy McGrath concurrently run with Motos Sunday race. If you are done racing for the day go watch the guys still on the track on the jumbotron in Hammertown or in one of the spectator sections. Then being part of King of the Hammers we Motos racers are promised an after party you won’t forget! Stick around and enjoy the festivities for the rest of the weeks!

Scoring
The winner of KOM will be the competitor that completes all the laps of the race the fastest. Race 1 will set the race line-up for Race 2, the winner of Race 2 will be the winner of King of the Motos.

Technical Notes

Motorcycle rules and regulations
All motorcycles will be race ready machines without any technical unsafe issues. Spark arrestors are required.  Race numbers are based on the AMA United States Hard Enduro series. Register your number here— https://www.moto-tally.com/USHE/SeriesRegistration.aspx

Race
No outside assistance will be permitted. Racers may help racers on the course as long as they have not finished or timed out. Any work done to the motorcycle will be done by the racer or racers not finished or timed out.

The course will be difficult, ascending in difficulty as the weekend proceeds. Checkpoints will be clearly marked on the course and on the GPS. No passing in the checkpoints! Racers will be scanned in the checkpoints, it is the competitors responsibility to hit all the checkpoints and get scanned! The GPS track log will be the deciding factor in any course dispute! Make sure you know how to use your GPS and log your track!

Pits
In the pits only the racers will be able to work on their bikes, no outside assistance. Anyone may hand the racers tools, parts, fuel, water, food etc. Only the racers may touch their bikes. Fueling must be done on a tarp or mat.

Saturday- Pits will be set up along the fence line in hammertown as in years past. The racers may enter the pits after completion of Lap 1, and re-enter the course to start Lap 2.

Sunday- Pits will be at the Start/ Finish line as in years past. Again, Only racers are allowed to work on their bike and may receive any parts, tools, fuel, water, etc. from an outside person. Only racers are allowed on a hot race course, no pit crew.  Racers will enter the pits after completion of Lap 1 and 2 and 3 and re-enter course to start their next lap.

GPS appendix-No GPS rentals available from King of the Motos Crew

General

  • Tracks will be marked mainly with GPS routes, with just little physical arrows or guiding marshals.
  • We will have tracks loading desk right at the sign up / Tech area
  • A good GPS mounting is essential - be sure to buy one in advance
  • Rider must stay within GPS track, with max deviation of 50 feet
  • All tracks will be loaded to the competitor GPS the day before the race at the registration desk / Tech. Up to 2 GPS units allowed per rider
  • We will delete ALL data from competitors handed-in GPS (including old recordings and maps). Be sure to make a backup before you give us your GPS.
  • Learn how to activate the "Track recording/Track log/TrackBack" in the GPS before arriving to Hammertown. It is the competitors responsibility to make sure that their GPS records during the race, competitors will get large time penalties for not having a recording unit. Check the manual of your GPS so you know how to check this setting. When a rider finished his race, the organizer might take the unit for track and CP’s verification.
  • If a rider gets lost (leaves the race track) he must re-enter the GPS track using the same route to avoid time penalties.
  • Absolutely no pre-running is allowed on the race area the weekend of the race - pre-running will lead to immediate DQ. If you want to test your bike, please ask at the registration desk for designated practice area and GPS track

Penalties

  • Failure to record track - Up to 1 hour penalty (which can lead to DQ if time limit has been met with penalty)
  • Re entering track by making cuts / taking shortcuts - minimum of 1 hour penalty and up to DQ
  • “Local” track deviation of more than 50 feet and gaining advantage by either avoiding obstacle or making up time -  30 minutes penalty
  • Missing virtual or physical CP, 1 hour penalty for each missing CP
  • Failure to hand over GPS at the finish line if requested will result in minimum of 2 hours penalty

Tips for GPS use and navigations

  • Running GPS with full backlight on, helps reading the track with direct sunlight. However, it will consume a lot of power. We STRONGLY recommend the use of Lithium (non rechargeable) batteries, and carrying extra batteries with you or hard wire the unit to the bike battery.
  • Running 2 units is better than 1. Besides the obvious backup unit, rider can use one unit at “zoom in” and one unit “zoom out”, allowing quick recovery in case of exiting track.
  • Touch screen technology has come a long way! Know your GPS and how to keep it clean.
  • Learn how to switch on and off tracks view and how to load new tracks. You will need to do that between races.
