2025 KOH RACER & FAN INFO

HELLO EVERYONE,

I hope this Holiday Season finds you with your family and friends doing all of the things. Normally we release course details based around our Pre-Show in early January. While I am looking forward to that show, co-hosted by Tom Ways and Cameron Steele, we have plenty of info that is ready to share. Here are some of the highlights of the information that will be shared in the coming weeks. We will add this info to our FAQs.

It has been an incredible journey over the last 19 years. I am proud of what we have built and look forward to our collective future.

SEE YOU ON THE LAKE BED,

DAVE

COURSE DETAILS

There are a total of 3 Laps. The Red Lap is the Base Lap for all Classes. The White Lap contains an additional 20 Miles of Rocks. The Blue Lap is shorter, but significantly more difficult with a total of length of 75 Miles.

  • Red Lap – 64.9 Miles
  • One Main Pit on the Short Course and one Remote Pit (available for Desert and Rocks) located at the end of the Mine Rd where Remote Pit 2 has been. There will be no access to the Race Course on Anderson Dry Lake Bed.
  • Desert Challenge runs Counter Clockwise from the Short Course.
  • Remote Pit is 13 Miles into the Desert Lap.
  • All Ultra4 Classes will run the course Clockwise from the Short Course.
  • The Remote Pit is 52 Miles into the First Lap for Ultra4 Classes.
  • Remote Pit is available twice on the White and Blue Laps (Ultra4 Classes Only)
  • Unlimited desert classes will race 5 laps, and limited classes will race 2-4 laps. While the race course will have a closure time, it will not be Grand Prix Finish. Everyone will get ample time to complete their mileage.
  • Ultra4 Classes will also utilize a White Loop (standard 2nd lap trails) and Blue Loop (much more difficult “3rd Lap” trails). The White Lap is 85 miles long and the Blue Lap is ~75 miles long. Race of Kings will be 225 Miles.

QUALIFYING

  • The Toyo Desert Challenge will implement standard Qualifying Process. All Classes will have an opportunity to Qualify. Qualifying time does NOT apply to your race time. It only sets your starting order. The qualifying loop will be 7 miles long with several line options depending upon your appetite and capabilities (Baldwin Jump is in play and the fastest line, but will have a longer, smoother bypass.
  • Class 11 will race on the same 7 mile course.
  • Ultra4 Classes will utilize a couple of the “classic” lines on the short course and then run the OG Motos Route backwards from the top of Short Bus. Eventually dropping down a huge descent looking directly at Hammertown. I believe this will be the best qualifying we have ever had with unrivaled challenge and SIGNIFICANT opportunities for fans to watch.

TRACKING AND TIMING

One of the things I'm most excited about this year is our Tracking. There will be much more info shared in the coming weeks but here’s the Cliff notes:

  • Purse – Over the 19 years we have been doing this, we have never based any of these decisions on a budget. It has always been, if it is cool, we’ll try it. Last year we made the bold move of slashing entry fees, but without guaranteeing any purse at all. That being said we still paid out $215k last year based on Sponsorship and Gate Revenue. As we progress into the future of Ultra4 Racing, I have promised a revenue split from HKP with our Racers. So going forward, 5% of Gate, Merchandise and Sponsorship revenue will be shared with Team and Competitor Charterholders. If you are racing KOH because of the Purse, we’re probably not the event for you. I am not trying to be rude, but want to have realistic expectations. As always, I welcome any discourse on the subject and am open to ideas. With all of that said, I will find a way to fund a purse.

OTHER EVENT DETAILS

  • I am honored to be partnering with the Gambler 500 Crew to host the shenanigans at Chocolate Thunder. We will have nightly music acts, open wheeling, jumbotrons and a couple other exciting surprises.
  • The Forty will be hosting the OG Monster Stage, with acts playing on a TBD Schedule.
  • Another very special opportunity only available at The Forty…

    • VIP “In the Rocks” Pass ($2500)
      • 20 Spots Available.
      • Must have a vehicle and skillset to do advanced trails at the Hammers.
      • VIP Camping Spot at The Forty.
      • VIP Pass granting full access to the VIP tent and viewing area on the Short course.
      • Three Days of Wheeling DURING the Main races.
        • Led by a group of Locals that are in coordination with the Event Organizers to allow you to move freely from Obstacle to Obstacle without being on course.
      • Guaranteed Access to the hardest spots of Lap 2 and Lap 3 Rocks
      • Must be self-sufficient, have a winch and be willing to help your buds, and genuinely want to have a good time.
    • We have never tried this before but hope to expand in the future.
  • On that note, Qualifying and the Main Course will offer several areas that will be accessible with 4wd vehicles to get further into the rocks.
  • During the Ultra4 Qualifying Mid-Day Break, we will be hosting the First Annual Ultra1 Championships presented by Dude Wipes. 10 Racers in full gear riding down Short Bus, shotgun start, sprint to the bottom on Electric Unicycles. Those of you that have missed the “Shoot Out”, don’t miss this.
  • For the Big Game Rock Crawling fans out there, XRock on Saturday and Monday, will get you up close to the World’s Best Rock Crawlers on rocks that no one has ever driven. Easy to get to, with video recaps airing next day. I am excited to have Hans Shear and his XRock series at this year’s event.
  • General admission tickets increase to $100 on January 2nd. A limited number of $35 Locals tickets will be available at our new store next to Hero’s Market (www.kohoffroadoutfitters.com) starting January 2nd. KOH OffRoad Outfitters will issue your ticket with a valid local ID or the good ole fashioned vouch from a local 😊 As always, 100% of Locals ticket sales go to the local community center of your choice. Last year we raised and distributed $25,000. I know we can top that.
  • Over time, KOH has gone from Free to Donation, to an Entry Fee of $25-$100 bucks that only about half our spectators pay for. The biggest threat to this culture and event is risk. Whether its in the form of higher Insurance Premiums (Over $250k Last Year) or higher Event Public Safety Costs (over $750k this year so far, and counting). In comparison, the total budget of KOH in 2007 was $30k. Here is my hat in hand plea to buy a ticket, sign a waiver, and the MOST important, even if you don’t buy a ticket, be SAFE. Put a flag on your ride. Watch out for your friends. Pick up your trash. Be nice. Don’t sue everyone else when you make bad decisions.
